Cheryl Kennedy (Echeverria)

"Deceased Classmate:  Echeverria; Date of Birth:  October 02, 1945; Date Deceased:  March 14, 2019; Age at Death:  73; Cause of Death:  GI bleed, following years of poor health; Classmate City:  Elko; Classmate State:  NV; Classmate Country: USA; Was a Veteran:  No; Survived By:  Husband Bob, Sons Tim, Matt, Dom and their families.

Cheryl Kennedy Echeverria was a loving mother, friend, RN and sister I miss dreadfully.  Family tragedy had her moving from Sacramento before we started our high school years, but she remembered with great affection her years and schoolmates at David Lubin, Kit Carson, and Sutter Jr. High."

Cheryl Kennedy Echeverria passed away in her family hometown, Elko, Nevada, not Greenville, NC. She would be pleased that old classmates from David Lubin School remember her days there, and she loved Sacramento. Her mother was born and raised in Elko where Cheryl's Granddad was the town plumber for years.

During the years that we lived many states apart, my husband, children and I would either visit Cheryl and her own family in Elko during summer vacations or we would all meet at some National Park and explore. In Elko, our husbands fought wildfire with a crew of Nevada Youth Training School boys, under the auspices of Nevada Division of Forestsry.  We girls would take the kids camping and picking wild fruits and berries for jellies and jams. Even tried our hands at canning - not quite as much fun!

In 1983,university teaching palled and my husband was offered a position teaching and testing at NYTC and we finally moved to Elko with a whole world of beautiful public lands. It was lovely to live in the same town as my beloved foster sister once again.
